US President Joe Biden met with a group of eight AI experts in San Francisco to discuss the administration’s strategy for managing the risks and opportunities of artificial intelligence. The attendees included renowned researchers and experts in AI safety like Fei-Fei Li, co-director of Stanford’s Human-Centered AI institute, and Joy Buolamwini, founder of the Algorithmic Justice League. The White House meeting aimed to address issues such as education, policy, safety, and harm mitigation related to AI.
During the discussions, the experts shared their views on the need for federal regulatory bodies that could provide oversight, licensing, and accountability for the burgeoning AI sector. While some agreed with this notion, others recommended Congress should take a more surgical approach to AI governance. Meanwhile, the US government has yet to set comprehensive regulations for AI development and production, unlike other countries such as Europe, China, and the UK.
As AI underpins many cryptocurrency, blockchain, and Web3 industries, it becomes increasingly challenging to separate the two sectors. Therefore, the US needs to develop policies that regulate both AI and cryptocurrency industries while ensuring that they operate symbiotically.
