Worldcoin’s Safe Deployment Revealed as App Migration, Not Scam

Worldcoin, developer of a gas-free transaction app, confirmed that the recent surge in Safe deployments to the Optimism network was not a Sybil attack or any form of scam but was instead due to an app migration from Polygon to Optimism.

The Safe is a multisignature smart contract wallet mainly used by development teams to ensure multiple team members sign off on transactions. Worldcoin widely uses Safes and was preparing for its app migration when it deployed over 50 subaccounts, each creating new Safe wallets.

Concerns arose after a series of transactions between June 21 and June 27, but the real explanation emerged after Tiago Sada, head of product for Tools for Humanity, the creator of the iris-scanning device used for identity verification and integrated with Worldcoin’s app, revealed the migration.

The deployment of more Safes was part of the company’s migration process to the Optimism network following its upgrade to a new version called Bedrock, resulting in lower fees and shorter deposit times.
