Exploring the Future of ZK-Rollups: The Zero Barriers Podcast Series Explores Crypto Adoption

Cointelegraph collaborates with StarkWare to present “Zero Barriers,” a six-part podcast series as part of the Decentralize with Cointelegraph podcast. This series delves into the world of zero-knowledge rollups (ZK-rollups) and discusses the next steps for blockchain technology adoption.

Throughout the series, three hosts from Cointelegraph will engage in conversations with various guests from the StarkWare ecosystem. ZK-rollups have gained prominence as a layer-2 scaling solution, particularly within the Ethereum blockchain. The first episode, titled “How blockchain is taking on the world,” features an insightful discussion between Uri Kolodny, CEO and co-founder of StarkWare, and Eli Ben-Sasson, its chief architect, who explore the future of Ethereum and their belief in the success of blockchain technology. Nathan Jeffay from StarkWare co-hosts this episode.

ZK Technology and Scaling Solutions

ZK technology enables one party to prove the existence of information to another party without revealing the underlying data. Several scaling solution providers have developed their own ZK-rollup protocols, with StarkWare introducing Starknet in November 2021. Starknet operates as a decentralized validity rollup or ZK-rollup on the Ethereum layer 2, facilitating scalability for any application on the network. Starknet aims to achieve full Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility and plans to launch Kakarot, a new zero-knowledge EVM, on a testnet in August.

ZK-rollups provide increased throughput on the Ethereum mainnet by moving computation and state storage off-chain. This technology can process thousands of transactions per second (TPS), significantly enhancing the current capacity of approximately 30 TPS handled by the Ethereum mainnet. Furthermore, ZK-rollups prioritize user privacy by not sharing sensitive transaction data, making them a noteworthy privacy-focused scaling solution.

Zero Barriers Podcast Series

The Zero Barriers podcast series aims to offer exclusive insights into the ZK ecosystem from those actively involved in building this technology. It provides a platform for listeners to stay informed about the latest developments and advancements in ZK-rollups.
