US Lawmaker Maxine Waters Calls for Input on Digital Asset Market Structure Bill from Treasury and SEC

California Representative Maxine Waters, the ranking member of the US House Financial Services Committee, has requested input from Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Gary Gensler on the potential impact of the proposed “Digital Asset Market Structure” bill. The legislation aims to create a comprehensive framework for digital assets in the US, including addressing regulatory gaps between the SEC and Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

Waters has asked both officials to provide feedback on how the bill could affect their existing regulatory authority and recommendations on digital assets. The lawmakers who proposed the bill are Republicans.
